Is ExcuseGPT a good idea to use?

It's a great idea for skipping a meeting you dreaded, softening a "no," or making a friend laugh. ExcuseGPT keeps things light and safe — it won't help with anything harmful or fraudulent.

How believable are the excuses?

Very. Each one is first-person, concise, and tuned to your category and the detail you add. Professional reads professional; dramatic reads like a season finale.

Where do my excuses go? Is it private?

On supported iPhones, excuses are generated on-device with Apple Intelligence — your situation never leaves your phone. On older devices ExcuseGPT falls back to a secure cloud model that drafts the excuse and forgets it; your inputs are never used to train AI.

Do I need an account to use ExcuseGPT?

No — tap "just browsing" and start generating instantly. Make an account only when you want your saved excuses and history to sync across your devices.

What happens if the AI can't connect?

You're still covered. On supported devices generation works fully offline; otherwise ExcuseGPT retries the cloud automatically and tells you exactly what's wrong if it can't connect — no silent failures.

This Privacy Policy explains how ExcuseGPT (“ExcuseGPT,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the ExcuseGPT mobile app and the website at tryexcusegpt.com (together, the “Service”). ExcuseGPT is an entertainment app that generates AI excuses, AI text replies, and novelty “evidence.” By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

1. The short version

On supported iPhones, your excuses are generated privately on your device and never reach us. When the cloud is used, your prompt is sent only to draft that one response — we don’t store your prompts and we don’t train AI on them. We don’t sell your personal data. Free users see ads; Pro users don’t. You can delete your content or your whole account from inside the app at any time.

2. On-device generation

On supported iPhones, ExcuseGPT generates excuses entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence. The situation you type and the excuse you get back never leave your phone, and we never see them.

3. Cloud generation

On devices without on-device support — or for certain Pro features — your prompt is sent to a secure cloud model (Google’s Gemini, accessed through Firebase) to draft the response. It is used only to generate that single output. We do not store your prompts on our servers, and they are not used to train AI models. This path is rate-limited to protect you and us from abuse.

4. Reply mode & screenshots

In Reply mode, you can share a chat screenshot so the app can read the conversation and suggest replies. Images you provide are processed (including text recognition) only to generate your replies. We do not use your screenshots to train AI or build advertising profiles. If you’re signed in and choose to save a conversation, it’s stored in your private account space; otherwise it stays on your device. Please avoid sharing images that contain other people’s sensitive personal information.

5. Information we collect

Information you provide: the situations and prompts you type, screenshots you share in Reply mode, the content you generate and choose to save, and — if you create an account — your email address.

Information collected automatically: usage and product-interaction analytics (via Firebase Analytics), diagnostics and crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics), and device and advertising identifiers used for ads (see Section 7). Some of this is collected by the third-party SDKs we use.

Purchases: subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive your subscription status (active, expired, trial) but never your full payment-card details.

6. How we use information

We use information to generate your excuses, replies, and evidence; to sync your history and favorites across your devices when you’re signed in; to operate and secure the Service and enforce rate limits; to understand which features are used and fix crashes; to provide and measure ads to free users; to send optional notifications you enable; and to comply with our legal obligations.

7. Advertising & tracking

ExcuseGPT is free to start, and free users see ads served through Google AdMob. To show ads — and, where you allow it, personalized ads — AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) and similar identifiers. On first use we show Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt and a consent request (Google’s User Messaging Platform); if you decline tracking, you’ll still see ads, but they’ll be non-personalized.

You can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Pro subscribers don’t see ads. Google’s handling of ad data is described in its own advertising policies.

8. Push notifications

If you opt in, we use Apple Push Notification service (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) to send things like an Excuse of the Day or product updates. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.

9. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers who help us run the Service, and only for that purpose:

Apple — App Store purchases, subscriptions, and push delivery.
Google / Firebase — authentication, database/sync, cloud AI generation (Gemini), analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, and app integrity.
Google AdMob — advertising to free users.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service.

10. Data retention & deletion

Excuses, history, and favorites live on your device by default. If you create an account, they sync to your private space in our database so they follow you across devices. You can delete any individual item — or your entire account and all of its data — at any time from within the app. Prompts sent for cloud generation are not retained after the response is produced. You can also email us at hello@tryexcusegpt.com to request deletion.

11. Security

Data in transit is encrypted, and every generated result passes an automated content-safety check before it reaches you. We use reputable infrastructure (Apple and Google/Firebase) with industry-standard safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but keeping your secrets safe is, quite literally, our entire business model.

12. Children’s privacy

ExcuseGPT is intended for a mature audience and is rated accordingly on the App Store. It is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

13. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or California’s CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to opt out of tracking, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise the core of these rights directly in the app (delete content, delete account, change tracking settings) or by emailing hello@tryexcusegpt.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

14. International transfers

Our providers (Apple and Google) may process and store data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice in the app or on this page. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
